U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy dead at 77
U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, patriarch of the first family of Democratic Party politics, died after a lengthy battle with brain cancer at age 77. Known as the "lion of the Senate," he played a major role in progressive legislation, championing civil and voter rights, family and medical leave, health care reform, rights of the disabled, and public service.
