Viaggio sul Sole

Geek   26.04.22

Geek   01.11.15

La nostra stella come non l'avete mai vista. Un sontuoso time lapse in 4K di mezz'ora, montato dalla NASA grazie alle immagini scattate dal telescopio spaziale Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

It's always shining, always ablaze with light and energy. In the ubiquity of solar output, Earth swims in an endless tide of particles. Every time half of the Earth faces the Sun, we experience the brightness of daytime, the Sun's energy and light driving weather, biology and more. But in space, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) keeps an eye on our nearest star 24/7. SDO captures images of the Sun in 10 different wavelengths, each of which helps highlight a different temperature of solar material. In this video we experience images of the Sun in unprecedented detail captured by SDO. Presented in ultra-high definition video (4K) the video presents the nuclear fire of our life-giving star in intimate detail, offering new perspective into our own relationships with grand forces of the solar system.

Il Sole in time lapse

Geek   10.11.14

Un time lapse in 4K della superficie Sole composto da oltre 17.000 immagini raccolte tra il 14 e il 30 ottobre dal telescopio spaziale Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) della NASA.

The surface of the sun from October 14th to 30th, 2014, showing sunspot AR 2192, the largest sunspot of the last two solar cycles (22 years). During this time sunspot AR 2191 produced six X-class and four M-class solar flares. The animation shows the sun in the ultraviolet 304 ångström wavelength, and plays at a rate of 52.5 minutes per second. It is composed of more than 17,000 images, 72 GB of data produced by the solar dynamics observatory (http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/) + (http://www.helioviewer.org/). This animation has be rendered in 4K, and resized to the Youtube maximum resolution of 3840×2160. The animation has been rotated 180 degrees so that south is 'up'. The audio is the "heartbeat" of the sun, processed from SOHO HMI data by Alexander G. Kosovichev. Image processing and animation by James Tyrwhitt-Drake.

Un video ritratto del Sole

Geek   26.04.13

La NASA ha realizzato un video di tre minuti che raccoglie tre anni di immagini scattate dal telescopio spaziale Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

Lunar eclipses, solar flares, coronal mass ejections and even the transit of Venus can be see.

Nasa point out some of the highlights:

00:30;24 Partial eclipse by the moon
00:31;16 Roll maneuver (where the observatory spins around to calibrate its equipment)
01:11;02 August 9, 2011 X6.9 Flare, currently the largest of this solar cycle
01:28;07 Comet Lovejoy, December 15, 2011
01:42;29 Roll Maneuver
01:51;07 Transit of Venus, June 5, 2012

The SDO captures a shot of the Sun every 12 seconds at 10 different wavelengths although this clip only shows two images a day.
